Witness sends comment on crosswalk accident

A 22-year-old woman has been struck by a car on Bayview Ave at or near the crosswalk for Soudan Ave. and Parkhurst Blvd (on the east side).  It appears she was hit by the vehicle when it failed to stop for the crosswalk. We have eyewitnesses information in the form of a comment below that corrects an earlier version.  Thanks to Mr. Baker for his information. The accident occurred about 8  p.m.  and the woman was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital. Police diverted traffic, including the 11 Bayview bus, along Cleveland Street and Manor Road.

  1. I also witnessed the incident and called 911 immediately. Thankfully the paramedics were there in less than 10 minutes. I can’t say as much for the police; they took their sweet time and arrived close to 8:30. I tore a strip off the cop as I have no patience for incompetent civil servants.

There’s no news on the girl who was struck so we can only hope she is okay.

The kids who hit her were laughing amongst themselves while we gave our witness statements to the police over an hour later. I came very close to knocking their teeth out, even the punk passenger who was on crutches.

  2. I was about 30 feet away from this when it happened and called 911 right away. It was actually 1 car that hit her, not 2 cars. The north bound car failed to stop at the crosswalk, struck her as she crossed and threw her into the opposing lane just short of another car. Happened at 8pm. Hope she is doing OK.
