Friends, colleagues and former students of David Stickney were shocked today to learn of his death while watching a softball game of a girl’s team that he helped coached. The circumstances were conveyed on Facebook by a long-time friend Nicholas Mitchell. “Our hearts are with Janet, Irene and Eric,” he wrote. Staff and former students at Leaside High School responded on Twitter and elsewhere to the loss of the well-regarded teacher. One wrote that David Stickney was a true friend who really cared about his students Peter Goulimis was among many tweeting at #Leaside. He called Mr. Stickney a man “who gave and never took” adding,”RIP Stick.”

  3. “Stick” was a role model to us all, that exemplified the true meaning of community!

  4. Had an animated chat with Dave just a week ago when he was doing another neighbourhood good deed. That was his style. Lively, caring, reaching out.
Both our grown kids are the better for having him as their teacher. Thank you Dave.

  5. Hard to say goodbye to an icon of all Leaside students. How many memories he made for us. Just such a wonderful man.

  6. Dave was an outstanding Math head and a true educator in every sense of the word. He embodies the best of Leaside, and his retirement left a hole that was hard to fill. He was also a community advocate, great coach, and friend to all. He tutored my son, and was always a friend to kids everywhere. I spoke to him not 2 weeks ago when we met on Bayview as we often did. He’s much missed, and leaves a legacy that will be long remembered.

  7. RIP “Tank”, what a wonderful person, friends and fellow LHS Football guys, Yukon, Reg, Greek, and Marcel have great memories of “Tank”.

      • Hey Roger, Mom and Dad have passed away, Dad at 80, Mom at 83, had a great life. Jim, living in Bobcaygeon, has suffered two strokes and his mobility is challenged, Reg lives in Lindsay, doing ok. Nick Malakis had a stroke and has some mobility issues, however he’s pretty good. I’m fine, work out 3 x a week, golf in a league in Niagara Falls, go to Florida foe 4 Mths with Nick. Trust you and Barb are doing well. I am currently living in St. Catharines.
