Calgary couple guilty of first-degree murder of diabetic son

A Calgary couple is guilty of first degree murder in the starvation death of their 15-year-old diabetic boy. Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Karen Horner said she arrived at her decision based on the planning and deliberation involved in Alex Radita’s death. Horner saidĀ his parents, Emil and Rodica Radita, were well aware of their son’s Type 1 diabetes and how it should be treated. The judge said the couple willfully hid Alex from teachers and doctors who could would have helped him. The boy was kept in “purposeful isolation” said Judge Horner. Alex weighed just 37 pounds when he died on May 7, 2013.
