A Beck cabbie is dead after a two-car collision on York Mills east of Yonge Street early Sunday. Police say it happened about 2.55 a.m. when an eastbound car went out of control and hit a pole and veered back into oncoming lanes and hit the taxi cab. The taxi driver, the only occupant of his vehicle, had to be extricated. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead there. The driver of the vehicle that hit the taxi cab was arrested and has been charged. He suffered minor injuries in the crash. Police say the driver of the other car, who was released from hospital earlier today, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor-vehicle. In a statement released Sunday morning, Beck Taxi said employees were “devastated” to learn about the collision. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. We will do whatever we can to support Toronto police in their investigation,” the statement read.
