Child in car brings charge under Child and Family Act

A father who left his daughter, 3, in his locked car with the engine running for 40 minutes has been charged by York Region Police. This action was taken under the Child and Family Services Act which specifies that any child under 10 who is left unattended is considered to be at risk. It occurred at the Vaughan Mills Mall where a security guard noticed the girl in the car about 3:30 p.m. because the car was parked in an expectant mother’s spot. The father also faces charges of engaging in prohibited activity on the premises of the mall, the nature of which is unclear. .


Police are reporting that two children, aged four and six, were walking in the Neilson Road and McLevin Avenue area on Wednesday when they were approached by a man who asked if they needed a walk to their school  The man is described as being in his mid-40’s with a dark brown complexion. He was wearing all black clothing.
