In-your-face pot couple in custody, shops raided nationally

Marc and Jody Emery are in custody awaiting a bail hearing Thursday and their marijuana shops across Canada have been raided in a combined police operation known as Project Gator. Police in Toronto, Hamilton and Vancouver descended on seven of 20 or more Cannabis Culture shops owned by Emery and his wife, a chain of illegal businesses that has earned him the sobriquet Prince of Pot. The Emerys in-your-face approach to their unlawful business includes among other things monopolizing news conferences with police and politicians to harangue them about changing the law. The couple is expected to appear in a Toronto court on Friday morning to seek bail after being stopped at Pearson Airport as they tried to depart for a marijuana conference in Spain.
