“Peggy Ann Smith Lane” for woman killed by gun play

Toronto and East York Council has voted to name a laneway after a woman who was killed during reckless gun play eight months ago in the Don River neighbourhood now known as Rivertowne. Peggy Ann Smith Lane will enshrine the name of the 61-year-old grandmother, much-loved in the area, on the lane which runs north from Kintyre Ave between Munro and Hamilton Streets. Smith, known as Nanny Peggy, was shockingly gunned down by a thug who was trying to target someone else.  To date, no arrests have been made in her death. The motion at T&EY Council came from Ward 30 member Paula Fletcher.
