Bodies of Canadian woman, friend found in Belize cane field

Police have found the bodies of a missing Toronto area woman and her American companion in a sugar cane field in Belize. Francesca Matus, 52, and Drew De Voursney, 36, had been missing since last week. Police said they were found with their hands duct-taped and that they had been strangled and left in a cane field in Chan Chen Village in the country’s northern Corozal District. Nancy Rifenbark, a friend of Matus and De Voursney who had been helping in the search, confirmed the report. The grim discovery came shortly after Francesca’s abandoned SUV was found in a sugarcane field. It was foreboding sign that had met some form of foul play as they drove home from a bar last week. Matus is the mother of two adult children who has a home in Georgina City south of Barrie.
