US says Pacific Mall a phony goods hub and cops don’t care

The annual report the US Office of the Trade Representative is said to describe the Chinese-Canadian Pacific Mall as “among the most notorious sources of pirated and counterfeit goods in the world.” It says the mall is one of 18 retail malls of so-called “notorious markets.” It claims the sale of counterfeit goods at Pacific Mall is “sprawling and pervasive” and that vendors “operate largely with impunity (as) requests for assistance from local law enforcement have reportedly gone unanswered.”


Prime Minister Trudeau says Canadians who buy pot are funding gangs and organized crime and will continue to be charged until marijuana is legal. The Liberal government is looking at ways to deal with criminal records for possessing pot but he said there will be no amnesty until after cannabis is legalized and controlled in July. Trudeau spoke at a two-day cabinet retreat in London.


Royal, TD and CIBC have increased the rate on their benchmark five-year mortgage and the remaining members of the big banks — BNS and BMO — are expected to follow.
