Fireman skier missing, OPP still can’t name Hwy. 69 dead

A Toronto firefighter is missing in Lake Placid after he disappeared while on the ski hills earlier this week. He is named as Constantinos ‘Danny’ Filippidis, 49. He was last seen sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday while skiing on Whiteface Mountain at the New York State resort. As many as 140 people are out searching for Filippidis who is said to be an intermediate skier. Meantime, OPP at the Northeast Ontario detachment say they are still not able to release details of the multiple fatalities that occurred February 6 when an SUV crossed the centre line of Highway 69 and struck a tractor-trailer. The SUV burned leaving a horrifying and confusing aftermath. The names of those killed will be published on the OPP Northeast Twitter account here.
