Molly’s Game and Downsizing screenings at TIFF 2017

We all remember when Jessica Chastain and the film crew of Molly’s Game visited South Bayview over the winter of 2016/2017. Molly’s Game, directed by Aaron Sorkin, was filmed in numerous locations throughout our great city.  Many Torontonians are excited to learn that the world premiere of the film will be at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) this year.

TIFF will also feature a special presentation and Canadian Premiere of Downsizing, starring Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig. Matt, Kristen and crew were spotted in Leaside last summer filming some scenes from this film.

DOWNSIZING: Matt Damon headlines a cast that includes Kristen Wiig, Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau, Laura Dern, Jason Sudeikis, Alec Baldwin, and Neil Patrick Harris in Alexander Payne’s sci-fi social satire about a man who chooses to shrink himself (literally) to simplify his life.

See you on the red carpet!

Filming on Bayview Tuesday, Wednesday for Molly’s Game

The producer says filming for Molly’s Game on Bayview Ave at Belsize Drive will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29 or if necessary because of weather on Wednesday, November 30. He says the scenes will involve filming the arrival of a car at the side of 1560 Bayview Ave. along the boulevard on the north side of Belsize Drive with a small interior scene in the ground level stairwell. During the filming there will be intermittent traffic stoppages on Bayview, Belsize and the rear alley behind 1560 Bayview.

Molly’s Game preparations have started at Bayview/Belsize

The basement at 1560 Bayview Avenue, the former home of 7-11, finally has a new tenant.  Albeit only for a week, it’s better than nothing!  Preparations have begun for a movie shoot using the interior and exterior of this location.  The movie, Molly’s Game is written by Academy Award winning writer, Aaron Sorkin and features award winning actors Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba and Kevin Costner.  Welcome to South Bayview!

Filmmaker will be at Bayview-Belsize starting on Monday

A shoot for a film called Molly’s Game will be underway at and near the corner of Bayview Ave. and Belsize Drive next week from Monday to about Wednesday, November 30, 2016. The film crew will employ 1560 Bayview, with its perennially vacant downstairs, both as a backdrop and for an interior shot or two. More interior shots will be done in January. The film is set in Los Angeles, New York City and Colorado. No indication about which of these Bayview Ave. will be portraying.

THIS MAY HURT

Molly’s Game will see trucks and vehicles parked on the north or south side of Belsize from Bayview to Cheston Rd., the east or west side of Gresham Rd. between Belsize and Manor Rd. and the  west side of Bayview Ave between Manor Rd and 100 feet south of Belsize Drive. Once again retailers may wonder if the trickle-down benefit to the economy of foreign film making will find its way to South Bayview as customers flee in dismay. City Hall wants to nuke trucks making deliveries because it causes congestion but the sky is apparently the limit for film making.

STARS
