The celebrated baseball writer and long-time resident of the South Bayview area Neil MacCarl has died. He succumbed to pneumonia in Toronto. MacCarl had been a resident of Moore Park for decades and was always ready to chat as he walked his dog along Hudson Drive. Frequently, he would find his way to the leafy cul de sac down near Moo0re Ave and visit the privately maintained memorial to his wife Mary, who was also in previous times a Star writer. During the off season, when he was in Toronto, Neil was often seen shopping on South Bayview. He is shown inset on a visit to Badali’s. As re information provided by the Star, there will be a visitation Friday, Aug. 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Humphrey Funeral Home, 1403 Bayview Ave. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. in the Humphrey chapel.
