It’s been a kind of mini-crusade by Toronto Star “fixer” Jack Lakey and his work paid off Sunday as City gardeners (inset) uprooted the tall “pampas” grass and tall shrubs from the new centre medians of Moore Ave between Welland and Bayivew Aves. Lakey was inspired in his work by a complaint from Bennington Heights resident Pat Bourque who described the growth as “stupid and dangerous.” It was impossible to see oncoming traffic, he said. Anyway, the the high grass is gone as of today.

When the city plans projects such as adding planters to new re-designed streets, does no one put together a maintenance plan? These are very attractive planters, however, if the city decides to construct and then walk away, it is inevitable weeds will overtake them. Typical lack of follow-through from the city.
