Union Station has been flooded by backed up sewers which were unable to handle the marathon rainfall we’re getting. Fire officials interviewed on television were laconic about it all. They’ve seen it many times as they observed that “TTC pumps were not able to keep up with the rain.” And memory certainly tells us that the station has been flooded frequently, sometimes more than once a year. The inset picture is from October 2011. Other video on YouTube shows rain water tumbling down the steps and escalators like a decorative waterfall. The lower level of the station is just that — low. It is always in danger of flooding.
