The Greek police found her in a Roma Gypsy camp during a raid related to drug smuggling. They thought she was too blond to be the daughter of the couple who said they were her parents. The cops were right. A DNA test reveals there is no biological connection between the couple and Maria although they have treated her as their own. Police are concerned that she was in fact abducted in 2009. They fear Maria may be an example of kids taken to become the children of those use them for criminal purposes. Maria has been introduced the street trade of begging by her Roma parents. She is now in the custody of a local care agency for children and is recovering from her fear and confusion about what is happening to her. It is a heart rending case.
