According to the story, Golnaz Vakili vanished with $5,000 in cash and a bag stuffed with yoga pants and purses. Within weeks, the young lawyer was the target of a civil suit alleging she was a central figure in a mortgage scheme that bilked investors of millions. The Law Society suspended her license. Most fascinating is a description of recent conversations Torstar’s reporters have had with Vaklili by some crackling and anonymous audio connection. It seems to have originated in a foreign realm.
