Joanna Lavoie in the Beach Mirror updates the story of the Broadview Hotel. It seems to follow the ideas put forward in May. The new owners said then they would be “restoring” the 1893 building but not turning it into condominiums. It appears now that “an east-end version of the Drake and Gladstone hotels” will be created at the site at Broadview Avenue and Queen Street East. The owner is the evocatively named Streetcar Developments. They say the tenants in the rooms on the second floor and up above Jilly’s strip club have now been relocated in “quality, affordable housing.” The firm said the decision to transform the old hotel into a boutique hotel was what the majority of the 1,000 or so area residents who took a recent survey.
