Nurse accessed health data wrongly Ontario College finds

The Ontario College of Nurses has suspended a Peterborough area member for accessing confidential patient records following a Toronto Star campaign related to privacy. The nurse, Mary Edgerton, was revealed to have looked at records as a means of preparing herself for emergency cases and to help her teach nursing classes at a local nursing school, Fleming College. Ms. Edgerton seems to have been motivated by a misguided sense of her professional duties. Her lawyer made the point that she had not given personal health information to anyone nor did she misuse the information in any way. Ms. Edgerton has been suspended for four months, according to the Torstar story published in Metro News.
