A witness who named himself as James has told CP24 that a man wielding a knife on Dundas Street refused to put it down and then lunged at the officer addressing him. “You could tell he was trying to injure the officer,” said James. The officer fired three or four shots said James. He was across the street and saw the exchange from beginning to end. The Special Investigations Unit says the incident began with the stabbing of a 66-year- old-man. He received minor injuries. After that there was a confrontation between the knife-wielder and a policeman, they say. The SIU is said to be “assessing” witness statements. The incident occurred at Bay and Dundas Streets Monday morning. The knife wielder is said to be in serious condition. Dundas Street is closed for an undetermined period.
