Toronto’s Penny Oleksiak wins silver in 100 m butterfly

Toronto’s Penny Oleksiak, 16, has won the silver medal in the 100-metre butterfly final in Rio Sunday night. It is the second medal for Canada at the Games following on a bronze in the women’s 4 x 100 freestyle relay on Saturday, a team which Oleksiak anchors. The Etobicoke teen was third at the 50-metre wall, and displayed her trademark rapid finish to improve her Canadian record to 56.46 seconds. See the six foot one Olympian in the video below reacting to this achievement.  Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom broke her own world record with a time of 55.48 seconds to win gold. Oleksiak beat American Dana Vollmer, the 2012 Olympic champion, who finished third in a time of 56.63 seconds. Penny’s brother Jamie plays for the Dallas Stars..
