A group of people were pepper-sprayed outside the Cineplex Theatre at Yonge-Dundas Square Friday night after what is being called a fight. The details are limited. The CBC says the attack occurred as people were leaving the theatre. Police said both those effected by the spray and many who were not fled the scene to escape the attack. Shortly before 10 p.m. a caller told police that 30 to 40 people had been pepper sprayed on the northeast corner of the square outside the theatre. The assailant used a “fairly large canister” of the illegal spray, PC David Hopkinson told The Star newspaper. In April 2016, people were sprayed with noxious mist outside theatres in Scarborough and Mississauga in connection with a protest against a Tamil film,. The Yonge-Dndas Cineplex is playing two Indian movies but there is no suggestion that there is a connection with the spray attack.
