A British company has banned men from having beards because they cause masks to fit poorly and threaten health in dusty work conditions. The Mears Group, a large British contractor, points to the direction it is getting from the UK Health and Safety Executive that workers with beards are not able to adjust masks securely against the face and that opens the employer to prosecution. It is causing outrage among manly bearded bruisers across the nation. Goatees “may be acceptable”, the company has said but it’s “not guaranteed”. And what tough guy construction real-man wears a goatee anyway.
