Late Friday police seemed to backtrack on a suggestion that fireworks started the $20 million blaze that destroyed the GFL plant May 25. But the release seems to leave the matter open. They seek people as witnesses, suggesting the fire was not accidental. Police say: “Information received since the original news release was posted is that the group of people seen lighting fireworks on the property adjacent to the fire scene were not involved in the fire. Police would like to speak to these people as possible witnesses to that fire.” Previously, police said fireworks landed on the GFL recycling plant just moments before fire engulfed the building a week ago Thursday. Two vehicles, a black pickup truck and a white sedan, were seen fleeing the area. Here is a report from City News and the video which causes police to suspect the worst.
