Inside Toronto reports that Bernnitta Hawkins, the long-time executive director of the Red Door Family Shelter will retire from the Leslieville haven after 14 years at the helm on November 30, 2017. Thank you Bernnitta. And there was a surprising fall of a mighty Beach oak on a calm Canada Day morning on Scarborough Road in the Upper Beach. No one was hurt but it took a while to round up service personnel to deal with the huge tree and put power lines back together.
