The Ontario Progressive Conservative Party will hold a leadership race ahead of the June general election, the party’s executive committee announced Friday. Earlier, the caucus appointed North Bay MPP Vic Fedeli as interim leader. All 200,000 members of the party will vote on March 24 on a new leader to challenge Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne. But officially, the race hasn’t started yet. Party president Rick Dykstra said the time frame will be established later. The move contradicts an earlier decision by the party’s caucus that MPP Vic Fedeli would serve as permanent party leader through the upcoming election on June 7.
