25 sent home at Leaside LRT as worker found doing dope

Metrolinx says that work was shut down on the Leaside LRT Station Wednesday when a supervisor learned that at least one employee was smoking marijuana during a break. As many as 25 workers were sent home, according to a spokesperson. The Toronto Star says a resident told a parking enforcement officer that she saw three workers smoking marijuana near her house, which is close to an emergency exit at Eglinton and Bayview that crews use to access the tunnel. “Smoking weed on the job will not be tolerated and Crosslinx (our contractor) has assured Metrolinx that they are taking it very seriously. Workers will be fired if caught doing drugs or alcohol on the job,” said spokesperson Anne Marie.  She told CP24. Metrolinx says Crosslinx has ordered its workers to take breaks on the job site. The contractor is also hiring extra security to patrol work areas.
