A Calgary hero, immolated activist and knowledge is power

Calgary doctor and entrepreneur Breanne Everett (left) is a finalist in a prestigious UK innovation forum. She conceived of and created shoes that help prevent damage to the feet of people with diabetes. She is one of the top 12 finalists in the Pitch@Palace Commonwealth Competition. It means she will be able to pitch her innovative medical technology to an international audience of entrepreneurs, tech experts, media representatives and investors at St. James’ Palace in London. Listen to her from London below and be proud of this interesting compatriot. Centre, it seems incredibly tragic that David Buckel, a nationally known environmentalist and gay rights advocate has burned himself to death in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.

MY EARLY DEATH REFLECTS WHAT WE ARE DOING TO OURSELVES

His chilling suicide note reads: “Most humans on the planet now breathe air made unhealthy by fossil fuels, and many die early deaths as a result — my early death by fossil fuel reflects what we are doing to ourselves,” according to the New York Times which received an emailed copy. Finally, Zeynep Tufekci is part of a TV program discussing privacy and freedom. There seems little knowledge among Facebook users that knowledge (about them) is power (in the marketplace). Do people care? Should they?
