CUPE members have voted in substantial numbers ranging from 75 to 68 percent depending on the local, to reject the offer of York University. The strike has been underway since early March and information is fragmentary on the validity of the union demands. The strike is said to be about “job security for part-time workers and the path to full-time tenured employment for contract faculty.” Read money. But what this might mean in real terms is entirely beyond sensible calculation. However it is apparently not so high that CUPE members are unable to forfeit pay in order to prosecute the strike.
