BMO and CIBC both say they have heard from alleged cyber hackers that personal information has been stolen. But the banks are apparently not quite sure that anything has in fact been taken. BMO said it was working with authorities to assess the situaton and CIBC did not confirm a breach. Both banks said they were contacting customers and advising them to monitor their accounts and report any suspicious activity. What the strategy of thieves might be is a bit obscure.
