US bludgeons Canada, Mexico to get NAFTA concessions

The US is bludgeoning its NA neighbors with stunning taxes apparently in a bid to force them to concede to weakened trade under NAFTA. The decision announced Thursday morning has infuriated Ottawa and triggered the announcement of new taxes on US goods. The US says such moves by Canada, Mexico and the European Union will represent a hit on only a fraction of the huge US economy. In the past however, the idea of punishing Canada has been denounced in many US northern states which rely heavily on trade with Canada.
