Hwy 401 bus crash at Prescott injures 24, some critically

A bus loaded with tourists from Asia, most of whom do not speak English, has gone off highway 401 and struck the wall of a cliff cut through rock to accommodate the highway. Many people were seriously injured in the crash near Prescott. The paramedic service of Leeds and Grenville County tweeted that numerous persons at the scene were found with vital signs absent and that others with serious injuries had been taken to Brockville General Hospital. Another 20 people were being taken to Kemptville Hospital to be assessed. A spokesperson for the Brockville General Hospital said it had received five critical patients and transferred a sixth to Kingston via Ornge air ambulance. The bus carries the logos of Union Tour Express, a company that is registered in Peabody, Massachusetts. CBC News has not yet been able to reach the company. It is not clear why the bus drifted to the right and ran off the pavement. — CBC Ottawa Citizen  All Coverage
