Kayla Kasak stops 47 as struggling Wildcats tie Sabres 1-1

Leaside Junior Wildcats tied the Stoney Creek Sabres 1-1 at Leaside Arena Sunday afternoon. Leaside held a 1-0 lead for the better part of two periods on a power play goal by Erin Arsenault with the help of Alyson Reeves and Lily Lacey in the first. Grace Nelles assisted by Emmy Lou O’Neil tied it for the Sabres at 13 seconds into the third period with a scorching aerial shot into the near upper corner of the net. It was an enjoyable game even for Wildcat fans who had their fingers crossed in hope of a rare win in this difficult rebuilding season for Leaside. The Sabres are contenders in the Provincial Women’s Hockey League, sitting tonight at seventh in the 20-team league. Kayla Kasak showed remarkable skill in net for the Jr. Wildcats. She stopped 47 of 48 shots, many of them in rapid succession at close range. Her opposite, Andrea Fausto, stopped 17 of 18.
