Abduction of well-off Chinese student an international case

York Region Police have released surveillance pictures of three men who abducted Wanzhen Lu, 22, from a condo parking garage in Markham Saturday. They say Lu was forcibly taken from the company of a woman friend, tasered and forced to get into an aging Dodge Caravan vehicle with stolen license plates. A fourth person was at the wheel of the van. Lu’s friend was uninjured in the incident and immediately called the condo security who contacted 911. It appears from the pictures that Mr. Lu may well have been taken by follow Chinese residents in Toronto. Police say the motive for the kidnapping remains unclear but there have been various attempts to extort money from the wealthy parents of Chinese going to school in Canada. It is not said where Lu’s parents reside. The Chinese consulate has been contacted. The Dodge van is a wheelchair accessible 2008 to 2010 black model and not very common. It contained both disabled stickers and a sign with a white background and black lettering on the passenger side. The licence plate — CEAR350 — affixed only to the rear of the vehicle, was stolen.
