John Candy honoured by East York Hall of Fame at Forth

John Franklin Candy was honoured as a famous son of East York Friday evening by dignitaries, his two children and by many friends. Candy became the first inductee into the East York Hall of Fame. The gala event at The Forth, 629 Danforth, was also attended for representatives of his former high school, Neil McNeil, on Victoria Park Ave. Candy’s children, Chris and Jen, said their father’s fame never went to his head. Candy starred in films such as “Spaceballs,” “Cool Runnings” and “Summer Rental” as well as the Christmas classic “Home Alone.” He began as one of the stars of Second City’s comedy club branch in Toronto and its related “Second City Television” series, which also made stars of Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, Catherine O’Hara, Harold Ramis and Martin Short.
