Bank of England Governor Mark Carney, 54, is the favourite to replace Christine Lagarde as managing director of the International Monetary Fund, according to an online oddsmaker. Carney is recalled as “The Kid from Fort Smith,” a town in the Northwest Territories of less 2,000 when he was born. He went on to excel at Harvard, worked on Wall St. and became Governor of the Bank of Canada. He is due to leave the BOE in January and is placed at 7-to-2 to take the IMF job, according to UK bookie Betway. Lagarde was this week nominated as president of the European Central Bank, and is due to take up the role when Mario Draghi leaves on October 31. Carney and his British wife Diana have four children.
