Booze “not an issue” as she drives ATV off cliff at Clarington

Durham Police say a woman, 39, simply made a mistake — a big one — when she drove an ATV off a steep cliff at Clarington Saturday and landed on the shore of Lake Ontario. Rescuers rappelled down to the cliff to rescue the woman, who luckily fell clear of the ATV. The four-wheel machine landed about 25 feet into the lake and sank. DRPS says alcohol was not an issue.

Concern and questions on FB about ragged homeless man

A long thread at Leaside Community deals with a down-and-out man and probable ravine dweller who is seen frequently on the streets of Leaside and Davisville Village. The concern is mostly for his welfare but there is also an instinctive question in the minds of some about unknown behavior. He is a forlorn spectacle. Mike Ball has posted a photo.

Elana Kampouris sings Chinese tune at Moore Ave Loblaws

Elana Kampouris, 21, a celebrated US actress, visited Loblaws on Moore Ave. Sunday with her dad, Alexander, and demonstrated her fluency in Mandarin by singing a Chinese folk song with two employees selling mushrooms. Ms. Kampouris is in Toronto until November shooting scenes for a Nexflix series called Zeus. It is scheduled for the 2020-21 season. She explained that she learned the difficult language beginning about two years ago by chatting with Chinese grocer friends near her home. Her accomplishment seems quite breathtaking. Ice cream sandwiches recalled over fear of metal fragments

A Quebec dairy co-operative, Agropur of St. Hubert,  says it is recalling two types of ice cream sandwiches sold in Ontario over concerns there might be metal particles in the product. How this might have happened is not mentioned. The statement says the Iceberg brand sandwiches sold in boxes of 8 and the Originale Augustin brand sold in boxes of 30 are being recalled.

Warning of possible pet poisoning at Eglinton/DonMills

Toronto police issued a warning Saturday after an investigation led them to conclude that dead animals found in a North York park had ingested poison mixed with peanut butter. Officers were called to Cassandra Greenbelt Park, near the intersection of Eglinton Avenue E. and Don Mills Road, around 2 a.m. They found “several deceased wild animals,” said Const. Scott Mills. “As a result of the investigation, police believe that an undetermined poison may have been left within the park area that has the potential to harm children and small animals,” he said. Heat warnng in affect for sweltering Saturday highs of 34

A heat warning remains in affect for much of southern Ontario including the GTA. The high is expected to reach 34º C, but it will feel more like the mid-40s with the humidex. Little relief is expected again tonight as temperatures will only fall to the low to mid-twenties with humidex values remaining near 30. A cooler and less humid air mass is forecast to arrive in the wake of a weak cold front on Sunday.

Men rip chain from woman, 86, on Park Rd at Asquith Ave

Police have released video showing a woman, 86, and two men who victimized her as she walked with her husband, 88, on Park Rd. near Asquith Ave. about 8:10 p.m. on June 12. A gold necklace was ripped from her neck. The Bulldog has produced captures from the video showing the suspects above. In the video, the woman can be seen running after suspect #2 pleading for her property to be returned. He ignores her and scurries off with his associate, suspect #1 They are (#1) approximately 25-30 years old, with black, short hair, wearing a black hooded jacket, white t-shirt with black writing, and dark-coloured pants Further, (#2) is approximately 25-30 years old, wearing a red-hooded jacket, with white strings, dark-coloured pants, and black shoes.

Police issue alert as opioids stolen at Yonge and Davisville

Toronto Police have issued a guarded release about the theft of “a container of OxyNeo” opioids taken at Yonge St. and Davisville Ave. Thursday between the hours of 2 and 8 p.m. The pills/capsules are of course addictive and potentially fatal if swallowed in numbers, especially by children.  There are two drugstores side by side on Yonge south of Davisville, a PharmaSave and a Guardian Pharmacy.
