Lane-splitting biker misjudges tractor trailer, is badly hurt

OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt shot this graphic aftermath of a tangle between a truck and a motorcycle. The rider is a rough shape but is expected to survive. He was riding between lanes of traffic at about 6 p.m. Monday when he got a little too close to the truck. This trick is called lane-splitting and is a favoured (although illegal) method of operation for some bikers. They say it is safer than stopping in a line of vehicles and risking being hit from behind. But it has its own risks, as seen here.
