Councillors Colle, Matlow and Robinson will hold a street-corner news conference outside the Aroma Espresso Bar at Yonge St. and Eglinton Ave. Wednesday at 6 p.m. to discuss construction and road safety in Midtown. It follows the death of a woman pedestrian on Tuesday. She was hit by a cement truck at the corner of Yonge and Erskine Ave. Below is the release issued late Wednesday.
Just what happened?
Maybe it should be clear, based on the police release, but the circumstances of the women’s death seem sketchy. She was crossing from north to south on Yonge at Erskine and was hit by a northbound truck turning right. It’s unknown whether both the driver and woman failed to see each other or whether the driver hit the woman after she had passed from his line of sight on the south side. More needs to be known.
