Atwood “a bit emotional” as Queen confers literary honour

Margaret Atwood has been awarded membership in the Order of the Companions of Honour for her services to literature. Atwood, a native of Bennington Heights, met and shook hands with her majesty, who is 93, as she accepted the award at a ceremony Friday at Windsor Castle. The CBC says the author of The Handmaid’s Tale was attired in a dark dress, brightly multicoloured scarf and a wide-brimmed red hat. The 79-year-old author told British media that she felt “a bit emotional” in the presence of the queen.
