New Bombardier cars yanked because of damaged brakes

The Toronto Transit Commission has yanked all Bombardier low-floor streetcars out of service on Queen St. because of widespread damaged brakes. “We’ve found damage to the brake system on seven streetcars on these routes,” the TTC said Wednesday afternoon. “This is in an abundance of caution.” Routes 501, 501L and 508 have been replaced with buses, the TTC said. The TTC said they suspect damaged tracks may have made contact with the streetcars’ brake systems. For reasons that are unclear, there are still streetcars running west of Roncesvalles Avenue via The Queensway and Lake Shore Boulevard.
