New term, new beard/PMO
Prime Minister Trudeau has returned from vacation with a beard. It’s just a bit of facial scruff as beards go but as many men might say, hair is in. In modern times, beards are unknown in Canadian politics. Louis St. Laurant (1948 to 1957) and Robert Borden (1911 to 1920) had mustaches. But the last full beard was seen on Mackenzie Bowell (1894 to 1896). Slate writer Christina Cauterucci takes a backhanded shot at Mr. Trudeau by noting that “many college sophomores around the world return from vacation with a beard.”
