Now Gairloch proposes to build 123 condos north of Soudan

Gairloch Developments is proposing to build a nine-story condominium with 123 units on the west side of Bayview Ave. between Eglinton Ave. and Soudan Ave. It would occupy the space of nine properties north of the Bayview Avenue Church of Christ. The addresses in question are 1718 to 1734 Bayview. Gairloch is the developer which has recently received approval to build at 1414 Bayview south of Davisville Ave. Urban Toronto

Karygiannis hoofed from office (again) for $26,000 dinner

Councillor Jim Karygiannis has been removed from office a second time for overspending public money to contest and celebrate his election victory in 2018. This time it was the Ontario Court of Appeal that overturned a lower court decision that had re-instated the Ward 22 member. Justices were particularly offended by a dinner that featured wine, pasta, racks of lamb and cake for some 50 people. The nearly $26,000 bill was sent to the taxpayers. City of Toronto release

Remember dad telling you that if you had ten dollars and you spent ten dollars what you had left was zero? Such useful truths will soon become part of the Ontario mathematics curriculum for elementary pupils. Internet age coding will also be taught progressively to kids from Grades 1 to 8. It seems to have been a long time coming.

But here’s a twist. You’ll have to buy a ticket in advance to get aboard. Lastly in this summary is word that the July 1 Order of Canada list has been cancelled because of the pandemic. We can manage.

Not to be unkind, but as discussed by City News people here, the Collision Tech Conference opening Wednesday will occur without thousands of attendees hitting the streets of Toronto. The meaning of this for gratifying personal interaction and naked money-making in the Toronto economy is obvious. Does anyone know why it’s called a Collision?

Firm will apply to build mid-rise project on Valu Mart site

Medallion Developments has issued a release saying that it plans to apply next month for a permit to build what appears to be a combination housing and commercial development on the northwest corner of Davisville and Bayview Aves. That’s the present site of Valu Mart and the Davenport Garden Centre. Medallion says the development will introduce “a new housing type to the neighbourhood. The proposed building will include rental units, which opens up possibilities for young people and families to move into this neighbourhood; and options for long-time residents to downsize and age in place.” Release

New COVID-19 cases jump to 216 as GTA readies to re-open

The Ministry of Health reports 216 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, a jump of 50 over Monday’s report. For eight out of the past 10 days, there have been fewer than 200 new cases of the virus confirmed in Ontario. The uptick comes as the GTA is set to re-open many businesses Wednesday.
