The rally has become a controversial issue among residents of the neighbourhood. There seems to be honest concern for the safety of neighbours, shelter staff and its residents, but the method for addressing the issues has created some tensions. Councillor Josh Matlow tweeted, “To those who’ve asked about these flyers- I strongly disagree with holding this rally in the midst of health, housing & opioid crises. It won’t improve safety or reflect well on our community. Let’s not succumb to fear. Let’s be kind & remain focused on addressing our challenges.”
Our community is much much better than this group of uninformed folks. The language in this flier is offensive. I’m hopeful that this group of people will have an opportunity to reflect on the hate they are projecting and try, try to be kinder.

Delivered to my door. I don’t support this “crusade”. The money & time it took to print & hand deliver these flyers could have been donated to an organization that helps #homeless & #marginalized people in our city. Midtown Toronto please show some #compassion pic.twitter.com/PzMmqc6Hns

I was homeless when I first arrived in Toronto from Montreal I really came with a friend and just intended to stay 2 weeks thats what I payed for at the hotel I stayed at after that I wanted to stay for all the agencies for Abriginal Peolpe it seamed like to me there was a Abriginal Agency for just about anything in Montreal all of Montreal and sourranding areas there is just The Native Friendship Center in a not so good part of town . Even know I spent over 15yrs on the streets and shelters I managed to find part time work and a few agencies to volunteer at even know I was himeless I was able to keep cloths at Native Child and shower everymorning and had clean cloths to look respectiable for the agencies I volunteered at which I didn’t mind leaving other street people and friends to make my volunteer times and on other days I pan handled or spend the days with other street people and new friends and if I heard of ppl planning to do illagle things I’d plan to not be there and hopefully could spend the time helping others on the street even know I was one of them and never minded letting other know it too that I’d problly see them around and useally did lol their’s more to my story and I don’t want to take up all the space and leave room for others .
