A driver is dead after he drove his car at high speed into the concrete abutments of the Princes’ Gates at Exhibition Place. The strange collision follows a similar fatal event in March. Police were called to the well-known monument and gateway to the CNE grounds at 4:40 a.m. for a report of a collision where the driver was trapped inside his vehicle.
As someone who cycles and walks there often, almost every time I am there I see showoffs racing and doing stunts with the CN Tower as a backdrop. Cops are never around and Exhibition Ground security hardly pays notice. Between these street racers and my fellow cyclists who blow past stop signs at the Grounds I’m surprised that there are not more of these tragic and avoidable incidents. Maybe the police can post some officers here in place of the multiple police cars who sit all day on King giving people tickets for driving through the intersection.
