A woman has died following a fire at Grigg’s Manor 1, 100 Cavell Ave. in Etobicoke. It is part of the Toronto Community Housing Seniors Housing. The woman was pulled from a unit amid heavy flames and thick smoke Monday morning.

City’s gift to taxpayers of Toronto and East York

The residential and commercial sidewalks of Toronto and East York will now be cleared of snow on the same general basis as those in Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough. The decision was taken Thursday in a vote of 24 to 1 at City Council. The decision corrects an inequity hangover from amalgamation in 1998. Time-honoured neighbourhoods like Summerhill, Lawrence Park, Leaside Bennington and many others will see this simple municipal service for the first time ever.

Car plowed into abutment at Princes’ Gates/CTV video capture

A driver is dead after he drove his car at high speed into the concrete abutments of the Princes’ Gates at Exhibition Place. The strange collision follows a similar fatal event in March. Police were called to the well-known monument and gateway to the CNE grounds at 4:40 a.m. for a report of a collision where the driver was trapped inside his vehicle.

Explosion shatters a house in East York. CITYNEWS/Sean Toussaint

Tenants of what appears to be a rooming house in Woodbine Ave south of Lumsden Ave have spoken of their harrowing night after an apparent furnace explosion rocked the house. As many as eight people have had to find emergency housing. Authorities say some residents went to the hospital on their own accord and are recovering from the shock of the experience. A news release late Thursday warns residents that the City will close Lake Shore Blvd E. between Jarvis St. and Parliament St. as well as part of Sherbourne St. at Lake Shore Blvd for a film shoot over the weekend. The closure will take place from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. during which part of the action will be stunt driving sequences. Transit riders can expect impacts to the following routes during this closure: 6 Bay, 65 Parliament, 72 Pape, 75 Sherbourne and 121 Fort-York Esplanade.

MoveTO will see green lights extended for late buses

City News has reported that an angry Adam Skelly, owner of Adamson BBQ, called a locksmith Thursday after learning that municipal officials had replaced the locks on his Etobicoke restaurant to prevent it from opening. It hardly seems likely that a locksmith will attempt to defy police but the strange drama continues to play out at the address on Queen Elizabeth Blvd.
