Governments are being urged to get a shot of vaccine into every single person who can take it as soon as possible rather than keep a supply back to provide a second shot. The new strategy is becoming clear as doctors say there is apparently a substantial immunity from the first shot. With large shipments due in days, doctors say lives can be saved by getting as many seniors vaccinated as soon as possible.

It may well be the variant is a naturally occurring phenomenon unrelated to the UK.
