City sends scorching letter to TDSB over slurs on Chief Pegg

The City has sent an indignant letter to the Toronto District School Board over accusations in a lawsuit that Fire Chief Pegg was somehow negligent at the scene of the York Memorial Collegiate fire two years ago. The letter is sent to Karen Falconer, Interim Director of Education at the TDSB and is signed by City Manager Chris Murray copying Mayor Tory. It is scorching in its condemnation of the board for the lawsuit.

I am compelled to express my extreme disappointment in the baseless and irresponsible allegations made against Fire Chief Matthew Pegg. I am also appalled at the calculated public release of the claim yesterday by the TDSB, which contained these allegations. In my view this could have only been intended to cause unwarranted harm for some undisclosed strategic benefit.

Mayor Tory is seen in 2019 in a City News report shortly after the fire asking why “fire watch” personnel apparently employed by the TDSB did not call the TFS when smoke emerged during the night.
