The complex case of an Alberta farm wife who fatally shot her abusive husband as he slept is now before the province’s Court of Queen’s Bench on appeal. Helen Naslund, 56, was sentenced to 18 years in prison last October for killing Miles Naslund in 2011. She is seeking a shorter sentence. A remarkable aspect of the killing is that Naslund went unmissed for more than five years after Helen and her sons hid his body in a pond. The discovery of the death only occurred when one of the boys carelessly spoke about it to friends in 2017. CBC
