There is much curiosity at Leaside Village, home of the big Longo’s, about just what will be housed in the new building at the corner of Laird Drive and Industrial St. Employees at the popular shopping spot say they’re mystified. One told The Bulldog even employees of the owner, First Capital, weren’t sure. It appears the tenants will be fast food places. Leaside wants to know.
At RioCan’s Leaside Centre on the southeast corner of Eglinton Ave E and Laird, Kitchen Stuff Plus has popped into the empty PetSmart space for a two-year run. That’s the length of the lease, say employees, and it signals just where RioCan stands with the planned redevelopment of the corner. KSP is known as a store that dotted Yonge St for decades but things change. Inside the cavernous place are tons of dishes, cookware, appliances and various oddments such as Nespresso and Popcorn machines.
The much-diminished Lake Leaside is seen above and many people know of plans by SmartCentres to see it become a big box heaven including Canadian Tire. CTC will move from the RioCan centre but as seen above, it has at least two years to ponder where it will go.
And then there’s the out-of-nowhere 939 Eglinton development at the corner Eglinton and Brentcliffe Rd. Isn’t it nice they didn’t try for 98 storeys.
