Jon Burnside announces candidacy for Councillor, Ward 16

Ward 16, Don Valley East

On Thursday, August 11 at 10:10 a.m. Jon Burnside will be filing his nomination papers and announcing his candidacy to become the next City Councillor for Ward 16, Don Valley East. Jon Burnside spent 10 years as a member of the Toronto Police Service and was elected to City Council in 2014. Burnside, who lives in Don Valley East, was the Councillor for Ward 26 from 2014-18 before it was absorbed into two other wards. Jon represented the communities of Wynford Heights and Flemingdon Park which are now part of Ward 16. Jon has most recently been Manager, Strategic Initiatives at City Hall. He continued his efforts to improve life in the city through his involvement with grassroots anti-gun violence and anti-human trafficking organizations. Burnside explains, “Serving as a City Councillor is a continuation of the work I’ve been doing for three decades to help improve life in our community and the city. I’m passionate about this community because I care about the people who live in it. My experience and leadership will be an asset to the next City Council.”
